The Ring doorbell has evolved greatly over the years, producing many models for their customers to choose from.
One model which is popular is the Ring Doorbell 3, but despite its popularity, many become confused when it comes to using the battery.

In this article, we will be teaching you just how to use the battery as well as educating you more on the Ring Doorbell 3.
Who Are Ring?
Ring is a company centered around protecting the livelihoods of their customers. Ring is the seller of doorbells however these doorbells are far from ordinary.
These doorbells double as a built-in security system, made to watch over the home and generate footage back to the homeowner’s own device.
Over the years, Ring has grown into something big and now this doorbell is something you will see on homes often.
The device has done so well that they now have many devices for people to choose from such as the Ring Video Doorbell Wired, Ring Video Doorbell Pro and the Ring Doorbell 3.
Why Choose Ring Doorbell 3?
Ring Doorbell 3 is one of their newer models and is a great choice for many. Unlike the originals, this Ring device holds upgraded features, allowing the home security to be tighter.
But what is it that makes this device better than all the rest?
Two-Way Talk
With the Ring Doorbell 3, you will be able to use the two-way talking feature, allowing you to speak to anyone who is at the front door.
Whether you are inside the house or across town, so long as you have your phone or any other device, you will be able to answer the door virtually and speak to them.
This is especially beneficial for those who are not at home when a delivery arrives. You will be able to speak to the delivery driver wherever you are easily.
Night Vision
Ring Doorbell 3 also comes with night vision. This means that even in the darkness of night, the camera will still clearly be able to pick up any activity spotted.
This is good if you hear something in the night or believe someone is lurking around. With the Ring Doorbell 3, you are able to get 24/7 access to video footage, right from your phone.
Works With Alexa
Another great aspect of the Ring Doorbell 3 is that it works hand in hand with Alexa. This is great as it levels up the device’s efficiency and is an attractive factor for those who already have an Alexa.
Always Connected
Regular security systems monitor the home and you can view that footage on a later period. Ring, on the other hand, allows users to stay connected to their home no matter where they may be.
If they want to check on the house whilst they are away, they can simply go on their phone and stay updated. If they are needing to answer the door but are busy or not in, they can still do so.
Ring Doorbell Battery Life
Whilst there is much good to say about the Ring doorbell, it should be mentioned about the quality of their batteries.
Unfortunately, the life of a Ring doorbell is what lets the product down.
It is said that the batteries in this device can last for as long as 6 months, however realistically these batteries will die much sooner.
There are many reasons behind this weak battery life such as:
Weather
When the weather has turned cold, this can have an impact on the life of the Ring doorbell’s battery.
This doorbell uses rechargeable lithium-ion batteries and, although powerful, they are not powerful enough to last when the temperature drops.
If you live somewhere with a temperature of 40F or under, this battery will die quickly meaning that the Ring doorbell will not last for 6 months as suggested.
Wi-Fi Connection
Another issue behind the poor battery life is a poor Wi-Fi connection. For the Ring product to work, Wi-Fi is required.
If that connection is weak or gone, the battery is more likely to drain at a quicker rate.
We suggest using a Wi-Fi booster before purchasing this Ring device if you know that your connection will be weak.
Overuse
Lastly, we have overuse. Naturally, the more you use a product, the more it is likely to drain the battery. When it comes to the Ring doorbell, this is the case as well.
The more this doorbell is pressed, the more battery it uses up. The more this doorbell senses activity outside (whether that be a person at the door or cars passing by), the more battery is drained.
Because of this, those who live in quieter areas and away from the city are more likely to have a fuller battery life than those who live on a main road or in a busy area.
How To Remove The Ring Doorbell 3 Battery
Removing the battery of the Ring Doorbell 3 is daunting to many and not everyone knows where to start.
That is why in this section we will be taking you through how to successfully remove this battery with our step-by-step guide.
Step 1 – Remove The Doorbell
What you will first need to do is unscrew the doorbell from the wall and remove it completely.
To do this, use the screwdriver provided in the pack (this will have a star-shaped end) and use this to remove the security screw.
Once this is done, the screw will have been removed yet the faceplate will still be secure in its set place.
Step 2 – Take Off The Faceplate
The next step is to take off the faceplate. This step may take some work as this faceplate was put in place in a way to make the device trickier to tamper with.
To remove the faceplate correctly without any damage, place your thumbs at the bottom of the faceplate and your index and middle fingers on the front.
Whilst supporting it with your fingers, push the faceplate upwards using your thumbs.
Step 3 – Remove The Battery
Once the faceplate has been taken off you can then replace the battery.
You will see a small rectangular tab at the top of the battery. All you need to do is press this tab and slip the battery out with your thumb.
Additional Step – Replace The Battery
At this point, you will probably want to replace your battery. To do this is very simple.
Simply get your new battery and put it into position until you hear a snap sound – this means your battery is secure.
Place the faceplate back on, hook the doorbell back onto the wall and you are all done.
How To Charge Your Ring Doorbell 3 Battery

Charging your battery for the Ring doorbell will likely come around quicker than you may think.
As explained above, the only downside to this doorbell is its unpredictable battery life, so because of this it is necessary to know how to charge it efficiently.
Charging the Ring Doorbell 3 only takes a few simple steps:
- First, you will need to remove the security screw (this will be located below the doorbell faceplate). Once this security screw has been moved, press in the faceplate on either side before slowly and carefully pulling it out. From here, you can remove the battery using the release tab.
- Next, connect the orange micro-USB charger to the battery’s charging port. You will know it is charging when you see both a red and green light. When it lights up a solid green, this will indicate that the battery is fully charged.
- Once the light has turned green and it is fully charged, slide the battery back into place. You will know it is in properly when you hear a click sound.
- Finally, place the faceplate back in (remember to listen out for that click) and get back to using your Ring Doorbell 3, fully charged.
